Jill's House

Sunderland Bay

Some projects are just about a client’s desire and a commanding view. Located on a prominent corner on the extreme edge of the bay, this house is special: it commands the dramatic views and provides a bold, contemporary approach to the traditional fibre-cement or corrugated iron beach shack.

The external finishes are durable and contemporary: the façade is a careful composition of sharp unmalleable materials and more tactile textured materials. The façade provides transparency and privacy as required. The form is a careful play on several volumes and planes, none of which dominates, all of which overlap and dissolve.

The first floor living spaces capture the irreplaceable views from every angle, whilst the ground floor accommodates up to eight guests. Dual living zones, common living zones and secluded areas: the spaces have been manipulated to allow everyone to be together and if need be, apart. The residence is a “turnkey” solution with all furnishings custom ordered to suit.
